Podiatry & Sports Injury
My name is Joanne, I am a qualified Podiatrist with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Podiatry from Huddersfield University. Currently I am working as a mobile podiatrist around Barnsley South Yorkshire England.
The majority of my week consists of home visits to clients, preferring treatment in their own homes. Things have moved a long way since the days of simply cutting toe nails. As well as running a mobile podiatry business, I also volunteer during the football season with the academy scholars at Barnsley Football Club and work with my partner John at Great Houghton Football Club. We find the two disciplines work hand in hand together.
One of the main reasons I love what I do, is the diversity and scope my Profession offers. My first appointment may be treating an Autistic Child with severe learning difficulties, an elderly patient with a complicated medical history or routine nail care, and the next may be anything from the treatment of diabetic ulceration, arthritic knee pain, athletic injuries, insoles, or toe nail surgery to name just a few.
This year October 2012 I begin my 2 year part time Pg Diploma in musculoskeletal assessment and triage, including the module theory of injection therapy.

Hi everyone my name is John. I would just like to take a few moments of your time to tell you a little bit about myself. In 1998 I was given the opportunity to join a professional football club as a coach in the academy. This was a role I enjoyed very much working with young hopefuls. In 2004 I was asked if I would be interested in working with the academy physiotherapy team. Always having an interest in this field I took the opportunity and was enrolled onto the Football Associations diploma in the treatment and Management of injuries after having already completed the basic and intermediate levels.
My time spent at the Football Association Lillishall school gave me the opportunity to work alongside, and be educated by some of the best physiotherapists in the game. During my two year diploma course I was surprised to learn how massage played a key part in the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, needless to say, over the last twelve months I have studied and passed the ITEC sports massage diploma course.
Although I have trained and continue to work within the physiotherapy environment I am not a chartered physiotherapist, I am a Qualified Sports Massage Therapist, with knowledge and practical experience in the treatment and management of injuries.

Further qualifications:

  • Sports psychology (Diploma) Newcastle University.
  • FA Diploma. In the Treatment and management of injury,
  • Basic, Intermediate, Diploma (2 years)
  • Emergency First Aid
  • ITEC Diploma Sport massage therapist.
  • Kinesio Tape Practitioner Kt1 & KT2

In addition to working within a professional academy I work alongside my partner Jo with the local community football team providing pitch side cover on match days, running treatment sessions and rehab as well as advice on prevention of injuries and foot care to the senior and junior teams at Houghton Main Football Club.
